A Fairfax High School student was convicted Thursday of assault and battery after prosecutors said he groped more than a dozen female classmates over multiple incidents.
Israel Christopher Flores was found guilty in Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court following testimony from several alleged victims who said Flores inappropriately touched them without consent on school grounds.
The charges stem from incidents that occurred during the current school year at Fairfax High School, located in Fairfax City. Multiple female students reported to school administrators and law enforcement that Flores had grabbed them inappropriately in hallways and other areas of the school campus.
Fairfax County Public Schools officials confirmed they cooperated fully with the investigation conducted by Fairfax City Police. The school system’s internal disciplinary processes ran parallel to the criminal proceedings.
“The safety and well-being of all students is our top priority,” said a FCPS spokesperson in a statement. “We take all reports of inappropriate conduct seriously and work closely with law enforcement when criminal activity is suspected.”
The case was prosecuted in juvenile court due to Flores’ age. Specific sentencing details were not immediately available, as juvenile court proceedings are typically confidential under Virginia law.
Fairfax City Police Detective Sarah Martinez, who led the investigation, said the case involved extensive interviews with witnesses and alleged victims. The investigation began in February after multiple students came forward with similar allegations.
The school implemented additional safety measures during the investigation, including increased hallway monitoring and reminders about reporting procedures for inappropriate conduct.
Parents at Fairfax High School were notified of the situation through official school communications, though specific details were limited due to privacy protections for minors involved in the case.
The conviction comes amid broader discussions in Virginia schools about creating safer environments for students and improving reporting mechanisms for incidents of sexual harassment and assault.
Fairfax High School, which serves approximately 2,100 students in grades 9-12, has implemented enhanced training for staff on recognizing and responding to reports of inappropriate conduct between students.
The case was heard by Judge Patricia Williams in the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, located in Fairfax. Court records indicate this was Flores’ first criminal charge.
School officials said counseling services remain available for any students affected by the incidents. The school’s guidance department has worked with families to ensure appropriate support resources are accessible.
Under Virginia law, assault and battery charges in juvenile court can result in various sanctions, including probation, community service, counseling requirements, or placement in juvenile detention facilities.
